Santiago R. O'Conor

Santiago Ricardo O'Conor joined Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal in 1989 and is a partner since 1997, specializing in intellectual and industrial property.

Mr. O'Conor is counsel on trademark matters of local and foreign companies in Argentina and internationally. He also specializes in Mercosur (South Common Market) matters.

Before joining Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal, he worked in the law firms of Estudio de los Dres. Goytia between 1982 and 1986 and at Baker & McKenzie between 1986 and 1989.

He graduated as a lawyer from the University of Buenos Aires in 1987 and attended the Program of Instruction for Lawyers (P.I.L.) at Harvard Law School in the year 1993.

Santiago R. O'Conor was an assistant professor in Private International Law at the Law School of the University of Buenos Aires and has actively participated in governmental meetings of the Sub-Group No. 7 of Industrial and Technology Policy of the South Common Market (Mercosur).

Presently, he is a professor on international business at the School of Economics of the Catholic University of Argentina and at the Master on International Business of Saint Andrews University, as well as at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLASCO).

He has participated as panelist in seminars of his specialty in Argentina and abroad and has written articles related to his area of specialty.

Mr. O'Conor has been Secretary of the Mercosur Committee of the Colegio de Abogados de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires; Secretary of the Argentine Branch of the International Law Association and National Delegate for Argentina of the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property.

At present he is a member of the Argentine Association of Industrial Property; Licensing Executives Society; International Bar Association; Inter-American Association of Industrial Property; MARQUES; member of the Anti-counterfeiting Committee of the European Community Trademark Association; Association Internationale Pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle.
